Le Riche

Chardonnay

This Chardonnay has a crisp, lemony freshness, balanced by lively acidity and firm structure on the palate.  Whole grape bunches were hand-selected, delicately pressed and then fermented in new French oak barrels. During the subsequent 4 months aging process, the barrels were regularly rolled to ensure flavor-enhancing lees contact and complexity.

Cabernet Reserve

A full-bodied wine that is remarkably aromatic with layers of clean, sweet, cedary oak. Supple, succulent, and rich on the palate.  The tannins are firm but not aggressive and there is underlying structure and fruit in the wine that promises even more complexity with further maturation in the bottle.  Reserve status is only endowed if the grapes and resulting wine measure up to exceptional standards. Hand-selected grapes from older, lower yielding vines are used. 24 months in French oak barrels (70% new).

Cabernet/Merlot

This Cab Merlot blend is medium-bodied, elegant, with subtle flavors, ample fruitiness and a dry finish.  The lower acid content of the larger Merlot berries contributes to the soft supple taste, and the small thick-skinned Cabernet grapes provide the tannins and firm structure. Fermented in open tanks. Matured in 225-liter French oak barrels (second fill) for 12 months.

The wine is still made according to the original recipe as set out by the first winemaker on Rietvallei, and passed down through the generations. The wine is deep red in color, full-bodied, rich, yet gentle. A floral bouquet comes through on the nose, with typical raisiny sweetness and an intense flavor that lingers on the palate and follows through on the finish. This wine has an appealing, up-front nose with plenty of ripe black fruit aromas and whiffs of tobacco pouch and cigar box.  In the mouth, tantalizing layers of flavors, with rich blackcurrant and cassis combine with the firm ripe tannins to produce a wine with great structure and finesse, and a wonderful long finish.

Shiraz

The nose of this wine is complex with whiffs of white pepper, smoked meats, sweet tobacco and licorice.  It is backed by a rich berry structure and warm earthy flavors.  The tannins are soft and round and the sweetness of the fruit is beautifully balanced by gentle acidity.  This wine has a lingering aftertaste with subtle hints of coffee and chocolate. Maturation took place in small American and French oak barrels for 26 months.  This wine is already very accessible, but may be cellared for up to 5 years.

Camissa Red Blend

An exceptional blend of Merlot and Cabernet, with Shiraz added in for extra spice. Ripe black cherry flavors, with sweet tannin and oak (aged in French and American oak, approximately one year).

“The Max” red blend

This Bordeaux-Style blend is made up of about 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot with small amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot.   It was matured in mostly new French barriques for 27 months.  The Cabernet Sauvignon gives it backbone, the Merlot the delicious ripe fruit, while the Malbec and Petit Verdot add extra depth and another layer of flavor.  This wine, like its namesake, the McNaughts' 3-year-old Jack Russel, has serious attitude!  Drink it now with its delicious full ripe tannins or lay it down to enjoy many years from now.  Its wonderful structure means that it is a wine that will mature extremely well in the cellar.
